Business Impact Analysis
Tier your processes, rate the impact of an outage as it goes on, and record what each process depends on. The tool finds the recovery times a dependency makes impossible, and the dependencies several processes share.
Before You Start
- List the processes that would hurt first, each with its recovery objectives.
- Rate the impact at each point after the disruption begins, from 0 to 5.
- Name what each process needs and how long that takes to restore. Use the same name each time, so a shared dependency is recognised.
- Produces
- A process register, the findings, impact curves, a dependency map and a CSV file.
New process
RTO is how soon the process must be running again. RPO is how much data it can afford to lose. MTPD is the longest outage it can survive. All three are in hours.
Your Processes
Sorted by tier, then by recovery time objective: the order in which they would be recovered.
No processes yet
Add the processes that would hurt first, or load the worked example, five processes of a pension scheme, to see how the conflicts and the dependency map behave.
| Process | Tier | RTO | RPO | MTPD | Dependencies | Status | Actions |
|---|
Findings
Conflicts, gaps and shared dependencies the arithmetic turns up.
Impact Over Time
Severity from 0 to 5 as the outage goes on. Up to six processes are drawn, the most critical first.
Dependencies
Each process on the left, what it needs on the right. Lines that meet on one dependency mean one failure takes several processes down together.
Save This Analysis
Saving gives the analysis its own link to come back to. Turning it into a continuity plan takes validated recovery assumptions and a tested exercise, which is the work of a Pinebridge business continuity engagement.
- Saving sends this run and the details you give here to Pinebridge. Until then it stays in this browser.
- A saved run has its own link and a report set out for A4.
